Data for climate disclosure on agenda at IoT State of the Nation

Australian organisations warned about lack of trusted, automated data.

Industry figures were warned about the lack of trusted, automated data that will be needed for mandatory climate-related financial disclosures, at the IoT Alliance Australia State of the Nation event in Sydney this week.

Hosted by Investment NSW, the event laid out the need for trusted data to support climate disclosure, and the challenges and opportunities to achieve this.

Investment NSW Executive Director, Industry & Investment Partnerships Maroun El Khoury spoke about lowering the barriers of entry for suppliers to help stimulate the growth of emerging technologies and provide pathways for startups to do business with the New South Wales Government.

IoTAA Chair Judy Anderson talked about the lack of momentum among Australian organisations when it comes to using data to drive more responsive decision making about adpating to climate pressures.

A panel discussion about trusted data needed for net zero climate-related disclosures featured Mike Kilburn, Director at Infrastructure Net Zero, John Connor, CEO of the Carbon Market Institute, Sam Sneddon, Co-Founder of Wollemi.io and the IoTAA's Judy Anderson.

Speaking about better outcomes for Australian infrastructure through digital by default, was Teone Tobin a senior policy advisor at Consult Australia.

Talking about raising the bar for trusted technology and data was Rob Nicholls, Associate Professor of regulation and governance at the UNSW Business School, Michael Briers AO, Co-Founder & Chairman of The Salmon Project, and Susan Skuodas, Director, Place Management at Sydney Olympic Park Authority.

A new IoT Course Database was launched by the IoTAA and is supported by IoT Skills Australia, the Australian Computer Society, Holmes Institute Australia and the AIIA.

The event was held at the Sydney Startup Hub in York Street in Sydney's CBD.
