Amazon’s Annapurna Labs has created an ARM-based platform-on-chip and subsystems product line called Alpine that is targeted for use in smart home gateways and wi-fi routers.
The firm said that “several” Alpine-based products from third party OEMs were already available, but that the product line had now been opened to anyone.
It said that present subsystems incorporated into home-based gear often constrained the performance of those devices, and that Alpine had been developed to ameliorate that type of problem.
Annapurna Labs said in a statement that the “Alpine platform is designed to bring enterprise-class reliability to the home”, particularly as homes became smarter and more connected.
