Security vendor AVG has launched an application platform in Australia and New Zealand that could be used to protect a network of smart home or personal devices.

Available for PC, Mac and Android, the AVG Zen application platform allows for the real-time monitoring of the protection, performance and privacy status of a user’s connected devices.

Zen is built into the company’s core products, including AVG Protection, AVG Performance, and AVG Antivirus for Android, among others.

“As our lives become more and more connected with new technologies like wearables and smart sensors, I can see a future where an AVG Zen enabled application might alert me when my child becomes ill or my home alarm stops working," AVG’s security awareness director Michael McKinnon said.

The vendor said it would try to partner with utilities, home security, locator and financial service providers to make Zen applicable to a broader range of devices and systems.
