Schindler Group has formed a partnership with GE Digital to infuse industrial IoT innovations into its fleets of elevators, escalators and smart buildings.

The group will leverage GE’s Predix platform and analytics expertise to bring IoT, predictive analytics and machine learning to its solutions.

Schindler hopes to monitor, analyse and leverage data generated from its connected elevators and escalators.

According to Schindler, its personnel will be able to proactively and predictively identify, analyse and resolve service issues before they occur, reducing downtime and improving the customer experience.

Jeffrey R. Immelt, GE’s chairman and CEO said: “GE and Schindler can deliver premium digital solutions powering urban mobility. Leveraging the Predix industrial operating system, Schindler is positioned to be a digital industrial leader in the elevator and escalator business.”

This latest alliance follows KONE’s recent announcement of a multi-year agreement with IBM to use its Watson IoT platform to perform similar predictive monitoring of its fleet of elevators, escalators, doors and building turnstiles.
