Honeywell has touted its role in helping The Sydney Opera House achieve a 6 Star Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).

The Sydney Opera House is one of the first UNESCO World Heritage-listed buildings to receive such recognition.

The deployment included technology to monitor indoor air quality and relative humidity, and the integration of over 20 different subsystems to improve safety, energy, and water usage. Other measures included electricity spot-price monitoring and cold room door monitoring.

The Honeywell system automates outside air control using real-time air quality data from the Bureau of Meteorology and has identified energy-saving opportunities through the installation of water and electrical meters.

The Sydney Opera House has piloted the Honeywell Buildings Sustainability Manager, which is designed to provide better visibility of energy use and carbon emissions down to an asset or device level.

Honeywell Enterprise Buildings Integrator monitors and controls the building management system and other hardware and equipment.

The system is promoted as a single point of data analysis for teams to monitor and control systems. For example, it “captures information on ticket sales to enable efficient temperature scheduling in performance venues, switching heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment on and off, and calculating baseline energy consumption.”

The BMS “alerts the building to respond by selectively shedding electricity loads,” and the “air circulation system automatically shuts down outside air intakes during bushfire smoke events to improve air quality.”
