NBN Co and the National Farmers’ Federation will work together to get Australian farmers to adopt more smart technologies.

The two organisations said they would first try to ensure all farms were connected, and then offer suggestions on ways to harness that connectivity to improve agricultural productivity.

The NFF said that it and NBN Co “will be highlighting the technologies solutions available to farmers, once they have a high-speed, reliable internet connection.”

“This can be as simple as online banking or weather monitoring or as transformational as connecting sensors to watering points or remote cameras for security and pest animal surveillance,” NBN Co’s head of stakeholder relations Sam Dimarco said.

The collaboration will also develop a squad of ‘connectivity champions’ who will share their connectivity success with farmers across the nation.

“We’ll be identifying these farmers who can pass on their wisdom and know-how to their fellow producers with the vision to see more farmers realise the benefits of connected-technologies,” Dimarco said.
