Sony Japan has just unveiled a smart light fixture that does more than just switch on and change colour at your command.
Using Toshiba’s LED lighting technology, the ‘Multifunctional Light’ possesses built-in motion, luminance, temperature and humidity sensors, and also comes equipped with a memory card slot, infrared controller, speaker and microphone.
Sony says that it will be capable of detecting when you’re in the room and turn on the TV or air conditioning, work as an intercom between rooms, control your thermostat, play music, form part of a motion sensing alarm system, and record and play back messages.
In this way, it functions more as a smart home hub with the added bonus of providing illumination as well.
At this stage, it is only scheduled for release in Japan in the first half of 2016, but this may expand to other regions if it proves popular there.
