Telstra will begin trialing a new Cradlepoint 5G wideband adapter for enterprise wireless customers in April this year, Cradlepoint has announced.
The W2000-Series 5G Wideband Adapter will be the first 5G Cradlepoint solution to go on sale in Australia.
The device is designed to provide businesses with a “graceful pathway” to 5G. It combines a “clean-sheet-of-paper” 5G modem and antenna system with Cradlepoint’s NetCloud platform and software-defined modem technology. This enables users to build and manage wireless WANs with zero-touch deployment, robust security, and SD-WAN traffic management, according to Cradlepoint.
The new adapter works with low-band, mid-band, and millimetre-wave spectrum and is Wi-Fi 6 capable.
Outdoor and indoor versions will help users position the adapter for better reception. The device can remotely connect to a customer premise router using 1Gbps or 2.5Gbps Ethernet or a fibre connection.
The W2000-Series 5G Wideband Adapter will be the first of several “5G for Business” devices from Cradlepoint. These will include a 5G adapter (W4000-Series 5G Wideband Adapter) designed for millimetre-wave mobile networks that can be directionally mounted on exterior walls, poles and rooftops.
Cradlepoint is also planning a sub-6Ghz 5G Modular Modem, which will provide a “field-upgradable pathway to 5G for Cradlepoint 5G Ready dual modem routers”. It expects this device and the W4000-Series 5G Wideband Adapter will be available later this year.
