Microsoft will have access to connect to Sigfox's low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) through its Azure IoT platform as part of an integration agreement between the two companies.

Both companies have previously worked together to facilitate the ‘Connect your City’ hackathon in San Francisco last November, and are currently building solutions for numerous clients around the world.

These solutions include improving logistics efficiency and security at Paris Orly Airport and measuring real-time air quality in Lyon, France through the use of sensor-equipped buses and trams.

"Our collaboration with Sigfox enables Microsoft Azure IoT customers to more easily integrate devices connected to the Sigfox network in their existing solutions," Microsoft's corporate vice presidentof developer platform and evangelism Steve Guggenheimer said.
