Toyota have announced that it will expand its data management and services capabilities, and has enlisted the help of Microsoft to do so.

The global vehicle manufacturer has launched Toyota Connected, which will leverage the power of data science using Microsoft’s Azure cloud technologies to develop predictive, contextual, and intuitive services and create a smarter driving experience.

The new company – which will be based in Plano, Texas – has been mandated to deliver seamless and contextual services, and use data analytics to support product development for customers, dealers, distributors and partners.

In conjunction with these goals, Toyota Connected will consolidate the parent company’s initiatives in data centre management, data analytics and data-driven services deployment.

Toyota and Microsoft will work together to accelerate R&D efforts to deliver new connected car solutions and enhanced customer experiences. Microsoft engineers will base themselves at the Plano facility, providing continuous support across multiple technology areas.

Toyota Connected will also become the central point for Toyota’s initiatives in emerging technologies, including in-car services and telematics, smart home/IoT connectivity, personalisation, safety and smart city integration.

The fruits of this joint collaboration will first be seen in the North American market, followed by regions further afield.
